Hannah Carter, 18
Smart, observant, stubbornly hopeful, and carrying her working-class family’s dreams while hiding how frightened she is of failing them.

Original RLP television world · In development
The first person in her working-class family to attend college discovers that earning a place is only the beginning.
Public treatment
Hannah arrives at college carrying more than her own ambition. She is the first in her working-class family to get this far, which makes every grade, friendship, mistake, and opportunity feel like a verdict on the people who sacrificed for her.
The series follows the widening distance between the person Hannah was expected to remain and the person campus life allows her to become. Academic pressure, money, family obligation, romance, and belonging create an emotional engine that can grow across multiple seasons.
Format: One-hour college coming-of-age drama
Tone: Hopeful, romantic, intimate, and emotionally honest, with real class pressure, family sacrifice, friendship, humor, and first love.
The world: Ashford University: residence halls, scholarship offices, campus jobs, lecture rooms, football weekends, and late-night diners in a beautiful private college where belonging is never automatic.
Pilot story
Hannah arrives with one suitcase and a scholarship whose GPA requirement suddenly feels terrifying. A financial-aid problem exposes her circumstances on move-in day. Zuri pulls her toward campus life, Olivia offers unexpected friendship, and Eli helps her find work-study. Hannah nearly calls home to quit—then walks into her first lecture.
First-season treatment
Freshman year tests Hannah’s scholarship, finances, homesickness, and belief that she must solve her family’s future. Zuri’s reporting on scholarship inequity strains their friendship; Olivia’s legacy status becomes both bridge and wound; Eli and Mason offer different visions of love and belonging. Hannah finally challenges a policy that could cost her place and returns for sophomore year unwilling to be merely grateful.
Series runway: Each season follows a college year: sophomore independence, junior internships and ambition, senior choices, and an optional young-adult chapter about what happens when the first person to leave must decide how to return.
